Who is Dr. Vickramabahu Karunarathna?
He was born in March 08, 1943 at Lunugala in Badulla in a traditionally elite family. His father is Mudiyanse Karunarathna. Mother is Vimala Kothalawala.
He received basic education at Ananda Shasthralaya, Mathugama. Passed university entrance from Ananda College, Colombo in mathematics stream and entered Peradeniya University. He graduated as a first class electrical engineer and qualified for a commonwealth scholarship to read for a doctorate at Cambridge University.
While being brilliant in education, he excelled as a sportsman and a theatre artist as well.
While teaching in Peradeniya University, he was thoroughly engaged in politics. In 1978, he was sacked from university and jailed for hoisting black flags against the draconian constitution reform proposed by J. R. Jayawardhana in 1978.
Since then, he dedicated his life for left politics. He always actively participated in struggles for the rights of the communities that were marginalized gender wise, ethnic wise and economic wise.
He contests 2009 Western Provincial Council election. Vote him! Symbol is table. Mark preference to the numbers 37, 36 and 22.
WHY THIS BLOG
Dr. Wickramabahu Karunarathna is contesting the 2009 Western Provincial Council election and we, a group of civil society activists of Sri Lanka think he should be elected to the Provincial Council so that the muli-faceted struggles he is already engaged in can be strengthened with the mandate of the people expressed through the election.
Therefore, we will vote him and urge you too to do the same.
Let us send our man, the unshaken Marxist and comrade of the downtrodden to the Western Provincial Council so that he can be a stronger companion of ours in struggles against exploitation and suppression of rights.

i sent a correction to school background as it is important to colombo district voters, still it has not come
